 Frequently Asked Questions

  • Integrative psychiatry is a holistic approach to mental health care that combines traditional psychiatric treatments—such as medication and therapy—with complementary and alternative methods. These can include lifestyle modifications, nutritional support, mindfulness, and other wellness-based interventions to address the root causes of mental health conditions. The goal is to create a personalized treatment plan that supports overall well-being.

  • No, I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP)

  • A psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who specializes in mental health care. They are trained to diagnose and treat psychiatric conditions, prescribe medications, and provide therapy. They often work alongside psychiatrists and other mental health professionals to provide comprehensive care.

  • The frequency of visits depends on your individual needs, treatment plan, and progress. Initially, appointments may be more frequent, such as every 2–4 weeks, especially if medications are being adjusted. Once stabilized, follow-ups may occur every 1–3 months to monitor progress and make any necessary changes. In some cases, such as therapy, the frequency is maybe every 1-2 weeks.

  • I see patients both in-person and via telepsych. Those who want to be seen in person will come to the office in Waldorf, MD. Those who want to be seen via telepsych will be using HIPAA compliance video conferencing platform that has been integrated into my electronic health record system (EHR). There are two other platforms that I use, if the software is not compatible with your computer’s operating system.

  • I accept both insurance and private pay. A list of insurances can be found on the services page, it includes Aetna, Carefirst Blue Cross Blue Shield, United Healthcare, Cigna, Tricare, MD Medicaid, and Medicare. Private pay is accepted by using major card brands such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Amex.

  • I am happy to accept HSA/FSA cards, provided they are issued by major card brands such as Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Amex.

  • Benzodiazepines (such as Xanax, Klonopin, and Ativan) are prescribed on a case-by-case basis. These medications can be effective for anxiety and other conditions but carry a risk of dependence. If prescribed, they are typically for short-term use and monitored closely.
